Crap... The movie's real. Just been confirmed. On the bright side, a new E3 trailer for the Sonic Boom tv show was released. It looks pretty potent.

I mean Sonic Boom seems interesting, but I'm not a real fan of the redesigns or the voices still. If they make Sonic the Hedgehog a movie *Sighs*, honestly I just hope someone who is a fan of the series does this with the right details and attention it requires because so many games turned to movies or cartoons turned to movies have been ruined because of lack of attention to detail and the love for which the movie is being based on.

Oh Gosh! Just heard that Orbot and Cubot will be in Sonic Boom. That's an automatic 8+ points in my favor.

Ehhh, I won't believe it until I find proof of it. As for Sonic Boom, I'm actually excited lol

Don't have much to say about the movie. As for Sonic Boom, I just hope they can get the writers from Black Knight, Colors, and Lost World, since those games had some pretty funny dialogue.

I don't see how people can judge this thing so early on when it's only just gotten an announcement.

I think people should reserve judgement and actually see the show/play the game before criticizing it.

ouch... just DONT
Dark-Kisame Featured By Owner Mar 24, 2014  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Ya gotta remember it might not be canon.
Sonic boom isn't canon and is made almost entirely by "Big red button entertainment" and Sega made that INCREDIBLY clear.
If memory serves me right, The only Darker type game Sega made (Shadow the hedgehog) WAS NOT CANON either.

So in all Sega has done good to make sure anything that goes way off the beaten path is not canon and WILL NOT effect sonic or it's story in any way
HedgehogsandBats Featured By Owner Mar 23, 2014  Hobbyist Writer
Depends on HOW darker and edgier this will be...I mean, Sonic Colors was too bright and bouncy, but Shadow the Hedgehog was too dark...If they go with something like the Adventure series (which was dark in its own right; the murder of Maria, Tikal, all that jazz) that'd be really cool!
MrNeedleMouse00 Featured By Owner Mar 26, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I wouldn't say Sonic Colours was too light-hearted...

It just had severe problems in execution.
HedgehogsandBats Featured By Owner Mar 26, 2014  Hobbyist Writer
I dunno...what stood out to me about that game was the cartoony banter (even during the final boss, when they were trying to make their villain look intimidating and powerful), the new chao wannabes, and the colors that forced players to wear sunglasses. Maybe I'm just caught in my own nostalgia (and I'm happy to admit I am) but I feel like it was too childish. Sonic is a family game, in my opinion, like Disney makes family movies. You don't want it to be too immature.
MrNeedleMouse00 Featured By Owner Mar 26, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
For a series with it's kind of premise, the banter was quite fitting. I was at least happy I had a story that was befitting for  something related to Sonic The Hedgehog. Many times Sonic games have had cringe worthy plots that force themselves down your throat.

Sonic games haven't appealed to the younger side to the fan base in a long time. A fatal flaw IMHO.

Maybe it's because I don't believe the Sonic series potential lies in storytelling. But this plot was  a hell of a lot better than most of what we've received. (Well at least in my opinion, anyway).
HedgehogsandBats Featured By Owner Mar 26, 2014  Hobbyist Writer
Maybe that's just the difference: for me, since I started playing Sonic, I was always drawn to the plot and characters. I enjoyed the game play too, but always got more caught up in the story. Thus, I have always preferred the Adventure series, Sonic Heroes, and whatnot. I didn't even mind Sonic '06 or Sonic and the Black Knight (though the ending of Black Knight was a bit far-fetched, and Elise was annoying as a character can be) as much as I minded some of the other games. I miss the days when I genuinely wasn't sure how far they were going to take the story, and who could suffer for it. The apparent deaths of Shadow and Blaze were really heart-breaking and made the games memorable. Honestly, Sonic Colors and the like fade from memory pretty fast. They remind me too much of the Mario games (no offense to any who like Mario).
MrNeedleMouse00 Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I was drawn to many things, the characters, the tone, the premise, and certainly the music.

I didn't like the Adventure series too much. For something that's supposed to have a better storyline to the originals, it sure doesn't do a very good job.

I despised 06. The game really has nothing going for it. Poorly written, fan fiction like plot. Worst story in Sonic history. Pathetic gameplay. Mediocre soundtrack. I could go on, but I've learned that if you say anything bad about any Sonic game, fans will dog pile you.

I find it ironic that the best stories in Sonic barely have any words in them, or any voice acting for that matter.

I prefer the Nature versus Technology theme the genesis games were built on, it's much more interesting. I do love some of the new games, no doubt. But, the premise would be butchered considerably after the years.

I honestly prefer the storyline where Sonic is a smug, cocky hero with an attitude. The overabundance of unnecessary characters don't help either.

I do like  characters like Blaze, Marine, and certainly the Genesis cast.

But, the likes of Shadow, Silver, Big The Cat...

They make me cringe.
HedgehogsandBats Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2014  Hobbyist Writer
I didn't really ever get a chance to play the old games all the way through (the closest I ever got was a cruddy remake of Sonic the Hedgehog on my phone ^^") so I'm not going to judge them. Yeah, Sonic '06 had all sorts of flaws (like Elise and the whole time travel issues they never resolved) but I somehow still liked it. Sonic was cocky in the Adventure series too, but he acted less like a cartoon character to me. Maybe my nostalgia goggles are blocking any really obnoxious moments, but he seemed more mature. He could goof off while still taking Eggman seriously.

I can see the faults in all the games, though for me, some of the benefits outweigh the negatives. Feel free to disagree; I'm not one of those fans who will jump down anyone's throats if they don't share my viewpoint.

...Though gotta say, seeing Silver and Shadow grouped with Big the Cat makes me cringe. Does anyone actually like Big?
MrNeedleMouse00 Featured By Owner Mar 27, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I've had enough time to play the originals (16 years ago was the first experience)

For me, Sonic 06 was completely unacceptable. Considering the standards set by various classic title's, the Rush series, and a few others, Sonic 06 simply had nothing going for it.

Sonic just wasn't cocky enough in the Adventure series for me. He lost a great deal of attitude that he didn't show very often. Considering Sonic pioneered the "Mascot With Attitude" gimmick, it was disappointing to see Sonic games try to delve into something they couldn't possibly succeed in, but at least they tried.

I will disagree. But, unlike most fans. I'll just accept it and move on.

A lot of the characters made me cringe. I honestly cannot say I like all of Sonic's friends.

I do enjoy a few of them, though.

Seems like an early April Fools' joke. Or a badly done rumor.

I don't mind Sonic Boom. It's going to be made by a different team that isn't Sega of Japan so it's not a permanent thing. If the game is really being worked on by ex-Naughty Dog developers I am up for it. And if it fails in the end it failed. Oh well. Regardless the Sonic games get so many sales anyway he is practically as permanent as Mario. If something makes sales it ain't dead. Life support, maybe, but not dead. :XD:

(Sorry about the dark humor. ^^; )

If this movie actually does happen, I'd be willing to see it. It seems interesting. As for Sonic Boom, i can't wait until the TV series is released!
I'm not sure. I'm torn because of some fanart I've seen Sonic being in battle, thinking a flash animation or a video of it would be great. But then again, last time Sega went dark and edgy with the franchise, it produced Shadow's game. (Which some hated)

So.. yeah. Torn in the middle, but leaning more on the "this is a bad idea" side. Sonic Boom seems to be a good idea though, the new Knuckles will warm up to people eventually.
DgShadowChocolate Featured By Owner Mar 22, 2014
I don't know what I should feel about this movie idea, but I'm just happy that Sonic is popular enough to get TV shows and movies again.
From what I understand, since I came to this fandom late, Sonic was huge, and then just took a nose dive when 06 came around, and he's stayed in this kind of limbo until Colors brought him back, and Generations really set things off.

I'm just going to keep an open mind about all of this until more info comes in.
Same with Sonic Boom, but I'm a bit more flexible. I mean, it's not like the design changes are permanent right? They're just going in a different direction and I'm cool with it. Knuckles honestly doesn't bother me much.

Haha we're the same.. I also came into the fandom late (so i don't see why people hate '06 so much but at the same time I see the problem) so all these changes don't quite bother me..

Sonic in a movie?? Isn't this what us fans have been longing for in a long while? I mean when I saw sonic in wreck-it-ralph I was giddy.. I think SEGA is spoiling us with these exposures of sonic, I'm talking about the new game and cartoon

I'm pretty excited about this.. if it does come true I could only hope it's good, can't wait for the cartoon to be premiered :iconyushplz:

I personally am looking forward to sonic boom! My interest in sonic had grown dim over the years but the new character designs drew me back in. I think a new generation of sonic lovers would be interesting.

although I do have to admit the movie idea is a terrible idea

The depth of doom!!!!!!!!!!! Even I REALLY don't like it at all! Its a disaster to me! Now...if anyone loves this Sonic Boom, please don't read this. If he stays this way forever.....I am DONE hoping for ANY new Sonic games forever!!!! Its bad enuf the plots, music & stories have REALLY went soft after the last BEST Sonic game: Sonic Unleashed. The games after it.....really shows how much softer....softer....& softer Sonic is becoming. First, we lack of multiple playable chariters, exciting music from Crush 40, magnificent plots, stories, nice looking environment, city based stages with people, GUN, police, cars & other Sonic chariters even being important to the story with important rolls.

So......ya....we have lost A LOT of what Sonic used to be. We even haven't seen Jet, Wave & Storm in a good riders game sence Zero Gravity! What makes it there is NO important roll for the Chaos Emeralds anymore! We haven't had a fun exciting grand finaly of a battle in a Sonic game sence Unleashed. Now, DS Sonic Colors DOES have it, but the DS verson is not in the main Sonic story line, the Wii version is. They AT LEAST have the Chaos Emeralds still out there to find with a great challenge to gain them, but NO finial battle that requires them anymore.

Well, well, well, we really are seing a major fall in the old long loved & known Sonic we have had in our lives is just about to end......ONE last thing...we have never seing Super Shadow or Silver forever, & I very shure Saga wont be having their super forms appear in a major story anytime soon. Well I do hope that they go back to the same old Sonic after this...."Sonic Boom" game is out.

Didn't they already do this? With that Internet movie made by Eddy whatsisname? And it had Jaleel White reprising the role as Sonic, with cameos from Brentalfloss, James Rolfe, Doug Walker, and Egoraptor?

My guess is they didn't see the reception to that movie. And if the rumour is true, they are going to feel so silly for going along with this.

I think the rumor will be kind of cool. The film will have better writers from successful films.I bet this movie will be better than Sonic 06.And especially,I love action!
I think Sonic Boom will bring Sonic up,especially since its not canon to the games.A more independent Amy is just perfect, she was my favorite heroine in the Sonic franchise! But you have those Sonic fans who always complain(they're never satisfied!),also I don't want SEGA to make Knuckles a complete idiot. So overall,I am pumped up for Sonic Boom!

About Sonic boom: i'm sonic's fanboy, yeah, i care about the sonic franchise's health and i don't want sonic get screwed up by guys who are desperate about "money and fame" but, i'm gonna follow Sonic to the very end of times.
About this rumor: a darker Sonic? hmm, Sega, you got my attention; for an older audience? Yeah, it could be interesting, let's see what kind of direction it take this...
I wish the best for Sonic (and Sega, of course)

my self I was just a little late to be a first gen fan and to much to old to be a second gen but this would be fun to see and I would welcome it with open arms

but I don't know how I fell about the live action as that would be a bit odd for my liking but over all I like the concept

That doesn't make sense it has to be a rumor, The Sonic franchise targets children not older people
Starzway Featured By Owner Mar 22, 2014  Student General Artist
I secretly hope for it to be true but at the same time seeing Sonic dark and edgy hasn't really turned out great...*cough* 06 *cough*. But it may be better since it's in the hands of capable movie writers. Well who knows I don't really want to grow that much faith in a rumor anyways.
BeautifulEternalSun Featured By Owner Mar 22, 2014  Professional Digital Artist
I doubt this rumor is true. SEGA would not suddenly want to make an "edgy Sonic" for older audience simply based on Sonic Boom's success. Sonic Boom's targeted audience are like 7-12 year olds, I believe. So, I doubt the rumor is true.

However, my opinion of Sonic Boom is positive. I look forward to both the series and the game, mainly because Amy and Knuckles (mostly Amy) will not be in the background and are actually important once more. They all have their own unique traits and skills, Amy's feeling more like her acrobatic self from Adventure DX. So, I do look forward to it. ^^
